When we apply Six Sigma to existing problems we deploy the DMAIC methodology. The acronym stands for;

• Improve
• Control

On the manufacturing floor DMAIC may be deployed to find and eradicate the root cause of persistent quality and productivity problems. The DMAIC method is equally powerful in the office to solve transactional problems.

 

New Product and Services

The Six Sigma methods are even more powerful when developing new products and services. The opportunities for improvement are even greater because problems that arise can be designed out of the process at much less cost than existing processes. The Six Sigma acronym changes to IDOV which stands for;
